This week my new quartet CD STEFAN KARL SCHMID/ PHILIPP BRÄMSWIG - ANIMA is going to be released on META records. We produced this record at the Deutschlandfunk Studios in Cologne with a fantastic bunch of people. Thank you very much Robert Landfermann, Jonas Burgwinkel, Christian Heck, Christoph Rieseberg, Michael Fossenkemper, Harald Rehmann, Nadine Targiel and Jana Heinlein for your contribution.

First release concerts will be:

Shannon Barnett Quartet Tour

I'm very much looking forward to the upcoming Shannon Barnett Quartet concerts. Besides Shannon on trombone and me on tenor the quartet is completed by David Helm on bass and Fabian Arends on drums. If you are near Munich next week you should come by.

Heiner Schmitz - Sins & Blessings

I'm very happy to be part of Heiner Schmitz' new interdisciplinary project 'Sins & Blessings' which deals with the seven deadly sins. We will be performing live at the end of January and recording at DLF, Cologne shortly after. Here's a little preview:

SCHMID's HUHN released today

My new record Stefan Karl Schmid & Leonhard Huhn - SCHMID's HUHN is officially released today on shoebill music, Berlin as 12" LP (180g) including a personal download code + 2 bonus tracks.

I'm very proud of this little piece of art which has been made possible by the wonderful band Leonhard Huhn (as), Stefan Schönegg (b) and Fabian Arends (dr) and all the fantastic work and spirit of the artists around us: Christian Heck (recording & mixing), Michael Fossenkemper (mastering), Nadine Targiel (cover art & photography), Johannes Haage (shoebill music) and Hayden Chisholm (liner notes).

Jazz @ Subway

Until the end of this year a couple of very exciting concerts will take place in our series 'Jazz-im-Subway'. Next week on November 12th the Subway Jazz Orchestra (SJO) is presenting a special program featuring three outstanding Cologne-based musicians: Henning Berg, Roger Hanschel and Sebastian Sternal.
Two weeks later (Nov 26th) my quartet with Philipp Brämswig and the wonderful KOI Trio feat. Matthias Nadolny are sharing the stage followed by Malte Schiller from Berlin who is conducting the SJO on December 10th with his music.
The last concert in 2014 is going to be a christmas special with 'The Hot Brownies' feat. Filippa Gojo on December 17th.

Sebastian Böhlen Quartet - Miscela

On November 7th 2014 my longtime musical comrade Sebastian Böhlen is releasing a new quartet CD including his new challenging, contemporary originals. We recorded at the famous old radio studios in Berlin. Besides Sebastian on guitar and me on tenor and soprano saxophone it features Jakob Dreyer on bass and Peter Gall on drums. The CD is going to be released on LAIKA records.
