Time for another solo transcription. This time I transcribed a piano solo by the fantastic Brad Mehldau. It can be heard on one of my favorite albums, Chris Cheek - Blues Cruise. The tricky thing about this transcription was to try playing it in real unison with the piano and not changing octaves to make it more comfortable on tenor sax. In October 2020 I started teaching at the University of Music and Arts in Mannheim as Professor for Jazz-Saxophone and Ensemble. I’m very happy about this opporttunity and it already has been a great experience so far working with wonderful students and colleagues.

Shannon Barnett Quartet | Jazzfest Berlin 2020 | Arte concert
The Shannon Barnett Quartet was selected to record a full set of music at the WDR in Cologne for this year’s Jazzfest Berlin Online Edition. It turned out very nice and we had a great time playing. The video is available on the Arte concert website. Please check it out.

There has been some spare time to get back into the transcription process. This time I’ve been working on a beautiful Sonny Rollins Solo on his tune “Valse Hot”.
SCHMID's HUHN - small series
SCHMID’s HUHN will be playing five nights in a row at Club Subway, Cologne. The SJO\CGN small series starts on Wednesday September 16th and ends on Sunday September 20th. You can get tickets trough Eventim. We’ll be playing a totally new program and in the second set the fabulous FEARLESS TRIO (with Johannes Ludwig, Simon Nabatov and Fabian Arends) will present their music.
